Resistance of the Disconnected Networks

The Disconnected Tree Networks survived by cutting themselves off from the Biological Memetic Engine, which spreads ideas and influences memory and behavior through living networks. Their continuing resistance leaves an unresolved internal conflict on the Airawa continent.

They fight through ecological sabotage, false trails, and immune counter-signals. They also preserve memories in secret and form alliances with Airawa communities that the empire claims no longer exist. The details of these methods remain unspecified.

Their survival threatens the empire’s legitimacy more than any foreign enemy can. The empire claims consensus; the networks are evidence that its consensus is incomplete and that submission to it is not inevitable.

The empire therefore denies that the networks exist while quietly draining resources into campaigns against them. It must fight an enemy it cannot publicly admit is there.
