Disconnected Tree Networks

Disconnected Tree Networks are surviving mother-tree ecologies that cut their connections before the Biological Memetic Engine could fully overwhelm them. The engine spreads ideas and alters responses through living networks; severing those connections allowed these ecologies to survive.

The networks do not form a unified resistance. Some shelter anti-imperial Airawa communities. In others, trees have more control than people. Some may be hostile to any Airawa whose body has been altered by imperial bioengineering.

Fighting the Empire

The networks actively fight the Airawa Empire. They sabotage it, use ecological misdirection to mislead it, and deploy immune countermeasures against it. They also preserve memories and keep rumors moving through routes the engine cannot fully process.

Enemies the Empire Denies

The empire denies that the networks exist. Soldiers who encounter them can therefore be punished for reporting real enemies. Officials can also use these officially “nonexistent” threats as grounds for internal purges.

That denial gives resistance groups something to exploit: the empire needs to maintain its lie even while fighting the networks. For imperial citizens, evidence that the networks exist can reveal that the consensus they live under has been manufactured.
