This index groups Zyphos organisms by how they obtain energy and what they do in the ecosystem. An organism’s main feeding relationship is its trophic role. That role is only part of its behavior: organisms also make agreements about memory, owe obligations along travel routes, bargain over reproduction, and exercise political agency. Each species page explains how the organism lives and acts, rather than treating it as a decorative counterpart to an Earth species.

To use a species as a non-player character (NPC), draw on five things its page describes: what it needs to consume, what it remembers, what agreements govern its relationships, how it responds to threats, and what makes its bargains break down. These pressures guide its behavior. Humanlike speech is not required for leverage; a creature needs only something another lifeform cannot safely ignore.
